Alarming Health Statistic - 30 To 40% of US Healthcare Expenditures Directly Related To Illnesses Caused By Excess Dietary Sugar

Mercola.com published an alarming article:

Sugar Consumption Accounts for a Big Chunk of Healthcare Costs

The summary is as follows:
New study finds 30 to 40 percent of US healthcare expenditures are directly related to illnesses caused by excess dietary sugar.

Research reveals that those getting 25 percent of their calories from sugar are twice as likely to die from heart disease as those getting seven percent.

Despite evidence that sugar is directly related to obesity and illness, the government continues to subsidize the corn syrup industry with taxpayer money.

Isn't it about time YOU cut your sugar consumption?

How To End Sugar Addiction For Good (You Know If You're Addicted)

Jelly Beans straight from the Easter Basket
You know if you're addicted to sugar - you crave chocolate, candy, cake (love the frosting), donuts (DD's bavarian creme), oreos, or ice cream. Holidays are the worst - the Easter basket, Christmas cookies, Thanksgiving desserts, etc

You're like a smoker sneaking out into the cold winter air for a puff, only you stop to pick up root beer barrels at the local food market and then eat the entire package in one sitting. Or eat three servings of ice cream in front of the TV set.

Sweet food is your friend, your comfort when things aren't going your way or your boss is  crawling up your butt.

How Do You Stop Sugar Addiction?

In theory, it's easy. I remember Wayne Dyer, the New Age philosopher, talking about how he stopped smoking - "Don't put the cigarette in your mouth."

Yeah sure - stop putting the sugary food in your mouth - way too hard to do!

Unfortunately, there's only one way to stop smoking - change your mindset that insists that a cigarette is a friend and think of it as a monster and the enemy.

Same thing for sugar - a lifetime of excessive sugar consumption leads to end of life misery from a variety of diseases. Only you can't think about the diseases - you think about the enemy - sugar - and how to conquer the enemy.

The good news is that when you restrict sugar consumption for a few days, eating a piece of chocolate is going to taste mighty sweet! Hopefully, you won't even try to eat it, because eating one bite will get you re-addicted.

Get Help

Most people don't stop smoking on their own - they get support.

So where do you get support to end sugar addiction? Dr. Mark Hyman, author of The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet: Activate Your Body's Natural Ability to Burn Fat and Lose Weight Fast, has established a community to support ending sugar addiction.

Joining a community of former sugar addicts is an excellent start!

A 10-Day Super Nutritional Makeover To Detox, Eliminate Food Addictions, and Lose Weight

What if you could "reset your factory settings," and in 10 days, get a nutritional makeover that will detox your body, eliminate food addictions (a sugar addiction would be great to lose), burn a whole lot of fat, and lose as much as 10 pounds?

In a recent appearance on the Dr. Oz TV program, Dr. Mark Hyman talked about his newest book called The 10-Day Detox Diet - the food plan designed to guide you through your nutritional makeover.

Dr. Hyman says that food is the biggest cause AND the biggest cure of disease. He claims that this 10-day detox diet re-boots your metabolism, requires no calorie counting, and reverses FLC (feel like crap) syndrome.

For the detox plan, you will need to eliminate the following foods during the 10-day period (the following info is from doctoroz.com):
  • Processed foods unless it is a canned whole food such as sardines or artichokes with only a few real ingredients such as water or salt
  • Any food or drink that contains added sugar (including honey, molasses, agave, maple syrup, organic cane juice or artificial sweeteners), especially any sugar-sweetened beverages or fruit juices
  • Anything that contains hydrogenated oils and refined vegetable oils (like corn or soybean oil)
  • Any foods with artificial sweeteners, preservatives, additives, coloring, or dyes
  • Anything sugar or flour based (cookies, cakes, candies, etc.)
  • Grains (rice, oats, quinoa) and all foods made from flours (crackers, pasta, bread, pretzels, etc.)
  • Starches (sweet potato, potato, squash, parsnip, beets, etc.)
  • Beans and legumes (chickpeas, lentils, peanuts, kidney beans, etc.)
  • Dairy (yogurt, sour cream, cheese, milk, etc.)
  • Coffee and anything caffeinated (tea, soft drinks, lattes, etc.)
  • Alcohol (wine, beer, spirits, etc.)
You will take supplements recommended by Dr. Hyman as well as fiber before each meal.

First Impressions
Dr. Hyman bases the effectiveness of his detox diet on a trial with 600 women and his 20 years of experience as a doctor of functional medicine.

In the past, his nutritional programs have been a bit overwhelming; however, the 10-Day Detox Diet sounds manageable. The good doctor has learned to modify his approach.

I've ordered the book (The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet: Activate Your Body's Natural Ability to Burn Fat and Lose Weight Fast) and will post a full review once I read it (and tried it).

Why Losing Weight Ain't Easy (Sugar Is The Enemy)

I have researched different eating and exercise programs for over 5 years. I haven't read about a comparison between sugar and tobacco until just recently. A well-respected holistic health doctor wrote an article comparing the negative health effects of sugar to those of tobacco. Wow! Interesting . . .

Sugar As An Addiction
We all know that smoking causes diseases ranging from lung and throat cancer to heart disease. The nicotine in tobacco is highly addictive. If you've ever tried to stop smoking using sheer willpower, you know all about the craving for nicotine.

Sugar addiction is equally hard to conquer. And lately, it's clear that sugar, a major contributor to diabetes and obesity, ranks near tobacco as a major cause of death.

Note that there are no warnings on the six-packs of cola that tell you the near 40 grams of sugar in one can is more than twice the daily amount recommended for good health.

We are so used to an excessive amount of sugar in our diet that we don't even think about it. Yet it is sugar that is the major cause of obesity.

Look around you at the next major gathering of people that you attend. I was in a sports arena recently. I was amazed at the number of people having problems fitting in the seats because they were too fat to fit easily.

What were these people consuming during the game? Food and drink full of sugar. One of the most popular food booths sold sno cones (shaved ice covered with flavored sugar water).

The First Step
Awareness is the first step to addressing the sugar epidemic. This is not one of the health field's false alarms or misrepresentation of the facts.

This is a real, live, everyday problem.

Our health education must include information about the dangers of daily consumption of large amounts of sugar. A brief look at the sugar content of most processed foods turns out to be an education in itself.

Sugar Restriction
Restrict sugar in the average person's diet and the weight melts off magically.

In fact, I wrote a free ebook showing you How To Lose 20 Pounds In One Month using sugar/carb restriction. Click HERE to get this ebook free of charge.

But some people have a sugar addiction (unfortunately, that includes me), so when they restrict sugar, they become like smokers craving nicotine.

Just one more piece of candy, slice of cake, or a cookie. Only you cannot eat just one piece. If one cigarette creates the craving for another, one dose of sugar creates the need for another and another.

This addiction, along with the loss of appetite control that's also caused by too much sugar in your diet, leads directly to obesity.

Sugar is the enemy.

Fortunately, there is a way to address sugar cravings with a simple change in your eating habits. Click HERE to eliminate sugar cravings and gain back appetite control. The bottom line is losing weight fast and safely.

Want To Lose Twenty Pounds In One Month? Minimize This Bad Carb!

This morning I was listening to a famous boomer philosopher who lost
23 pounds in 29 days.

How did he do it?

The Story
Wayne Dyer has been around since the 80's talking about Erroneous Zones and writing creative self-help books like Excuses Begone!: How to Change Lifelong, Self-Defeating Thinking Habits.

I was listening to CD 3 of his audio program Making the Shift: How to Live Your True Divine Purpose.

In Making the Shift, he describes making a video for Excuses Be Gone. In the video, he has what appears to be a bowling ball under his shirt and wonders how his audience might receive his weightiness. Tough to explain when you can't come up with an excuse, although the common one is that older men "get thick" and there's nothing you can do about it.

There Are No Accidents
The day after the video viewing, Wayne met with Jorge Cruz, the exercise and weight loss specialist and author of The Belly Fat Cure: Discover the New Carb Swap System and Lose 4 to 9 lbs. Every Week.
Jorge relayed some startling facts like the following:
  • In the 1800's, Americans consumed about 15 grams of sugar per day.

  • At present, Americans consume 285 grams of sugar per day.

  • A 12-ounce Coke has 45 grams of sugar.

  • An 8-ounce glass of OJ has 30 grams of sugar.

  • A tablespoon of ketchup has 5 grams of sugar.
Get the picture?
We boomers have grown up with built-in sugar addictions perpetuated (and nourished) by Food Inc. The result - a lot of fat people of all ages. "Getting thick" is a MYTH. Jorge claims that if you reduce your sugar consumption to 25 grams per day, you will lose 20 pounds in one month.

And Wayne did it and lost 23 pounds in 29 days. And my co-worker just stopped drinking Coke every day and lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks.

Low carb eating plans work (I have used them).
You can buy Jorge Cruz's book on AMAZON by clicking the picture shown below:

A Caution

This is easy if you want a slimmer YOU. This is hard if you aren't aware that sugar exists in just about everything we eat that's processed. Our boomer challenge is to get healthy AND beat Food Inc out of the profits they make poisoning us. By the way - were you aware what cancer feeds on? You got it - SUGAR!
