Klean Kanteen Water Bottles - How To Stop Them From Warbling!

In a previous post, (Klean Kanteen Quality Control), the author discussed the manufacture of Klean Kanteen Water Bottles - the stainless steel best water bottles on the market.

This info came from the company spokesperson. The author considers the Klean Kanteen Water Bottles an excellent choice for quality, eco-consciousness, and price. But alas! There was one wee little complaint - the bottles may make embarassing noises when you use the sports cap.

Apparently, you can minimize the noise. Here's what the spokesperson said about Klean Kanteen water botttle warbling:

Some make more noise than others, and there are a couple things you can do to minimize the sound. If you tighten the cap just enough so that the silicon gasket grabs onto the lip of the bottle (without leaking when tipped) it lessens the pressure in the bottle and therefore lessens the work of the little silicon valve on the top of the cap, which is where the air flows in and out of the steel bottle and is the source of the sound. This is the most important hint – do NOT over-tighten your cap!!

Make sure that the silicon valve is positioned correctly in the cap (you can do this by turning your cap upside down and looking inside it).

Also, make sure the valve (white dot in the top of your cap) is under your nose while drinking, so that the loop handle is toward your right cheek. This way the vent is backed by air and not fighting liquid when tilting the kanteen back for drinking. This should help the air to flow more smoothly through the valve and minimize the noise.

Minimize the noise and you have a near-perfect water bottle for the office, home, and fitness club!

Klean Kanteen Water Bottles - Extraordinary Quality Control

In a recent post (http://agedefiance.blogspot.com/2011/03/best-water-bottles-on-market-klean.html), I mentioned Klean Kanteen Water Bottles as my choice for the title of . . .
Best Water Bottles (ever). That's their logo below.

These stainless steel water bottles are resusable, inexpensive, and will save you tons of money if you use them instead of unhealthy plastic bottles that pollute the environment.

Since then, I ran across a statement saying that stainless steel bottles made in China could be lead tainted. I decided to investigate.

So I emailed Klean Kanteen and asked about this concern. Their response was timely and comprehensive. Here's the highlights of the response.
Laboratory tests conducted by Klean Kanteen to date cover U.S. regulatory-based standards, including the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) for lead and phthalates, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for materials that come into contact with food and beverage, and California Proposition 65 evaluation for carcinogenic chemical compounds or reproductive toxins. In addition, tests are regularly tested to ensure absence of bisphenol-a (BPA) in polypropylene and silicone of our caps, and periodic elemental analysis of bottles to confirm the metals composition of Klean Kanteen bottles.

In 2010, the testing program was expanded to include even stricter standards from Canada, Australia/New Zealand, and the European Union (EU). Results of all tests to date have met the applicable regulatory standards and we are very pleased with the results.

Bottom line - the company's quality control is extraordinary.

I will continue to research this issue and I am impressed that the company addressed the issue head on. Thank you Klean Kanteen for making a product that meets consumer needs.

The Best Water Bottles On The Market - Klean Kanteen Water Bottles

Boomers into fitness know that it's very important to stay hydrated. Helps you stay alert and thinking clearly. Prevents nausea during a workout. And the older we get, the harder it is for your body to detect the need for hydration.

That being written, the search starts for the best way to hydrate.

Do you drink bottled water?
That's probably not a good option for a number of reasons:
  • The industry's not regulated so who knows what's in bottled water.

  • Plastic is an issue because it gives off chemicals as well as polluting our environment with vast amounts of discarded plastic.

  • They are not reusable.

  • How expensive is it to drink bottled water?
So if bottled water is not a healthy, cost effective or eco-conscious choice, what are the options to stay hydrated? After much research googling "best water bottles," the most logical option is NOT plastic reusable bottles, but stainless steel. Aluminum doesn't cut it - it unfavorably flavors water and I always associate the metal with the dreaded dementia Alzheimer's (however unscientific that may be).

The Best Water Bottles On The Market
Based on reviews from a variety of sources including Amazon, I ordered a Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Bottle with 3.0 Sport Cap (Brushed Stainless, 27-Ounce) and have been using it for a few months.

I carry it everywhere - to work, to the fitness center, and around the house.

So far so good. The only minor disadvantage I found - you hear a strange noise when you drink directly from the sports cap. It disturbs the work environment, so I remove the cap. No one cares in the fitness club.

Oh yeah - the most important thing - the water!
One could argue that the best water does not come from the tap, but from a filtered tap. You could probably use a Brita water bottle, but aren't they plastic?
